What is AdAway?

AdAway is an open-source ad blocker for Android devices that utilizes the hosts file to effectively block advertisements. The hosts file is a system file that maps hostnames to IP addresses, allowing AdAway to redirect ad requests to a non-functional address, such as 127.0.0.1, effectively preventing the ads from being displayed. The app offers the flexibility to automatically download pre-compiled hosts files or to use custom hosts files, providing users with the ability to curate their own white- and black-lists, tailoring the ad-blocking experience to their preferences. Additionally, AdAway provides an option to run a local web server, enabling it to respond directly to blocked hostnames, further enhancing the ad-blocking capabilities of the application
