What is Alpine?

The Alpine email client provides a versatile and accessible command-line interface for managing email, catering to users across the spectrum from novice to experienced power users. Developed by the University of Washington and based on their prior Pine Message System, Alpine can be easily navigated through exploration and context-sensitive help features. The user experience is highly customizable through the Alpine Setup command, allowing individuals to tailor the application to their specific needs and preferences. While the University of Washington oversaw Alpine's development until 2008, the program is now maintained by developer Eduardo Chappa, who offers a collection of patches to introduce new features and address any minor issues
