What is Apertium?
Apertium is a free and open-source rule-based machine translation platform that enables the translation of text between a diverse range of language pairs. Initially focused on closely related languages, the platform has expanded to handle more divergent language combinations, including English-Catalan. As a GNU General Public License-licensed software, Apertium provides users with the ability to access, modify, and distribute the underlying code. The current stable version of Apertium supports a wide array of languages, including Asturian, Basque, Breton, Bulgarian, Catalan, Danish, English, Esperanto, French, Galician, Icelandic, Macedonian, Norwegian (Bokml and Nynorsk), Occitan, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Swedish, and Welsh, with many more language pairs in active development. Users can access the translation functionality through the Apertium web page or by downloading and running the translator on their own Windows, Mac, or GNU/Linux systems
