What is AppleJack?
AppleJack is a user-friendly troubleshooting tool designed for Mac OS X. It allows users to troubleshoot their computer even when they cannot load the graphical user interface or do not have a startup CD available. AppleJack runs in Single User Mode and provides a menu-based interface for easy navigation. With AppleJack, users can repair their disk, fix permissions, validate the system's preference files, and remove potentially corrupted cache files. These operations can often help get a machine back on track without the need for a separate startup disk. To use AppleJack, users simply need to restart their computer in Single User Mode by holding down the Command and S keys at startup, and then typing "applejack," "applejack auto" (which will run through all the tasks automatically), or "applejack auto restart" (which will also restart the computer automatically at the end of the process)
