What is BOINC?

The BOINC software platform enables individuals to contribute computing resources to a range of scientific research projects. Users can install the BOINC software on their personal computers and elect to donate the idle processing power of their devices to efforts investigating disease cures, climate change, pulsar discoveries, and other areas of scientific inquiry. The participation process is largely automated, requiring only the initial installation and selection of preferred research projects
