What is CDE (Common Desktop Environment)?

The Common Desktop Environment is a graphical user interface designed for commercial UNIX-based operating systems. It was developed through a collaboration among prominent technology companies, including Sun, HP, IBM, DEC, SCO, Fujitsu, and Hitachi. Previously only available on select commercial UNIX platforms, the Common Desktop Environment is now accessible as open-source software, enabling a wider audience to benefit from its features and capabilities
