What is ChatSecure?

ChatSecure is a free and open source messaging application that leverages Off-the-Record (OTR) encryption over the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP). Users can connect to existing accounts on platforms like Facebook or Google, create new accounts on public XMPP servers (including through Tor), or even link to a personal server for enhanced security. Unlike other messaging apps that restrict users within their own ecosystems, ChatSecure is fully interoperable with other clients that support OTR and XMPP, such as Adium and Jitsi. The application exclusively utilizes well-known open source cryptographic libraries to safeguard the privacy of user conversations. In contrast, other messaging apps that claim 'military grade' security without publicly auditable source code and verifiable end-to-end encryption cannot provide the same assurances of user safety
