What is Clam AntiVirus?

ClamAV is an open source anti-virus toolkit primarily designed for email scanning on UNIX-based mail gateways. It offers a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command line scanner, and advanced tools for automatic database updates. The core of the package is an anti-virus engine available as a shared library. ClamAV is also available for Windows, developed through a partnership between Immunet Corporation and Sourcefire, Inc., providing a free Windows-specific anti-virus solution using a cloud-based protection mechanism. Notably, ClamAV is the smallest of all anti-virus applications, with a download file size of only 3.45MB for the 32-bit version. Users can utilize ClamAV for Windows as a standalone, host-based anti-virus solution or in conjunction with pre-installed anti-virus software to enhance detection of the latest malware threats
