What is DXF2papercraft?

DXF2papercraft is a tool that converts a polygonal 3D model stored as a DXF file into a 2D DXF file, creating a flattened pattern of connected polygons. This process, known as "unfolding," allows the 3D model to be translated into a paper-based format. The resulting 2D DXF file includes glue tabs along the unconnected edges of the polygons, which are numbered to indicate their corresponding pairs. By gluing these numbered tabs together, the user can assemble the paper model into a physical representation of the original 3D object

Highlights

  • Converts 3D polygonal models in DXF format to 2D DXF files for paper-based crafting
  • Generates a flattened pattern of connected polygons with numbered glue tabs for easy assembly
  • Supports the use of various paper types, including normal paper, tracing paper, or rice paper, to create semi-translucent effects
  • Enables the creation of physical paper models from 3D digital designs
  • Provides a simple command-line interface for easy integration into various workflows
  • Allows users to scale the 2D DXF file to fit on a desired sheet size before printing and assembling
