What is GNOME Files?
The GNOME Files application, previously known as Nautilus, is the default file manager for the GNOME desktop environment. It provides users with a straightforward interface to navigate and manage their files and folders. GNOME Files offers a range of features, including bookmarks, customizable window backgrounds, note-taking capabilities, and the ability to install add-on scripts to extend its functionality. Users can choose from various view modes, such as icon, list, or compact list, to suit their preferences. The application also maintains a history of visited folders, similar to a web browser, allowing for quick access to previously explored locations. GNOME Files is capable of displaying file previews, including text documents, images, audio, and video files, through the use of specialized thumbnailers like Totem. Additionally, users can preview audio files by simply hovering the pointer over them, with playback powered by the GStreamer multimedia framework
