What is GpsPrune?
GpsPrune is a versatile application designed to provide users with a comprehensive set of tools for viewing, editing, and converting coordinate data from GPS systems. The application can load data from various text-based formats, including tab-separated or comma-separated files, as well as XML, and can also directly interface with GPS receivers to import data
Highlights
- Data Viewing and Editing: GpsPrune allows users to display GPS data in multiple formats, including map view using OpenStreetMap images and altitude profile. The application also provides editing capabilities, enabling users to delete points and ranges, sort waypoints, and compress tracks
- Data Conversion and Export: GpsPrune can save data in multiple text-based formats and export it as GPX, KML/KMZ files, which can be used for importing into Google Earth or other platforms. The application can also send data directly to a GPS receiver
- Data Analysis and Visualization: GpsPrune offers features for analyzing GPS data, including calculating distances, altitudes, and speeds. It also provides the ability to display tracks in 3D format and export the model in POV format for rendering with external tools
- Photo Integration: The application can load JPEG files and read their coordinates from EXIF tags, allowing users to connect photos to data points and write the coordinates back into the EXIF tags. GpsPrune can also export thumbnails of these photos to KMZ format for display in Google Earth
- Cross-Platform Compatibility: GpsPrune is written in Java, making it compatible with a wide range of platforms, including Linux, Windows, and macOS, as long as a Java runtime (version 1.5 or higher) with GUI libraries is installed.
