What is MOC?

MOC is a console-based audio player designed for Linux and Unix systems. It offers a simple and intuitive interface, allowing users to navigate through directories and play audio files without the need for complex playlists. With MOC, users can select a file and the player will automatically queue up all the files in the same directory, starting with the chosen file. This eliminates the hassle of manually creating playlists For users who need to multitask or switch between applications, MOC provides a unique feature - the ability to detach the interface while leaving the audio playback running in the background. This means users can close the terminal window or switch to another task without interrupting the music. When needed, the interface can be reattached to the running server, allowing for seamless control MOC's performance is optimized for smooth playback, even under high system or I/O load, thanks to its use of a separate output buffer thread. This ensures a gap-free listening experience, as the next file is pre-cached while the current one is playing The audio player supports a wide range of file formats, including popular ones like MP3, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, and WAVE, as well as less common formats supported by the libsndfile library. It also provides support for internet radio streams, such as Icecast and Shoutcast To cater to user preferences, MOC offers customizable key mappings and the ability to configure how the player handles metadata and character set conversions. Additionally, it includes a simple mixer and the option to apply color themes to the interface
