What is OpenBMC?

The OpenBMC Project community is developing an open source Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) firmware stack that enables consistent and interoperable platform management across diverse hardware environments, including enterprise, high-performance computing, telecommunications, and hyperscale data centers. The firmware supports remote monitoring, configuration, and remediation capabilities to streamline infrastructure operations. Its modular architecture allows for customization and extensibility to address unique requirements of different market segments and use cases

Highlights

  • Heterogeneous system support: The firmware is designed to work across a wide range of server, storage, and networking hardware platforms found in enterprise, HPC, telco, and cloud data center environments
  • Remote management capabilities: Provides out-of-band monitoring, configuration, and remediation features to enable efficient infrastructure management
  • Modular and extensible architecture: Allows for customization and addition of new functionality to meet specific customer or use case requirements
  • Open source development model: The community-driven project enables collaboration, transparency, and shared ownership of the BMC firmware stack.
