What is OpenContacts?

The OpenContacts app is a comprehensive solution for managing and securing your personal contact information. This independent and local database application allows you to keep your contacts private and protected from unauthorized access by other apps, such as Google's. With OpenContacts, you can import and export contacts using the VCF (vCard) format, including the ability to import directly from the Android contacts app. The app offers a choice between automated and manual contact export, with the option to encrypt and password-protect the exported data. OpenContacts also provides a range of additional features to enhance your contact management experience. It displays the contact's name when receiving a call, maintains a call and SMS history log, and even allows you to export your call history. The app can be used as a replacement for your default phone dialer, offering search capabilities and optional call filtering and blocking functionalities. Contacts can be organized into groups, and the app supports synchronization with remote DAV servers. The application is available on the F-Droid platform and is licensed under GPL 3. Users can contribute to or review the app's code on the GitLab repository. OpenContacts also offers multilingual support, dark mode, and customization options for font size and time format
