What is OpenELEC?
Open Embedded Linux Entertainment Center (OpenELEC) is a compact Linux-based Just Enough Operating System (JeOS) built from scratch as a platform to transform your computer into a Kodi (previously XBMC) media center. OpenELEC is designed to boot your system as quickly as possible, and the installation is so straightforward that anyone can turn a blank PC into a media machine in under 15 minutes. The application offers a comprehensive set of features, including the ability to organize your movie collections, play videos while scraping relevant information, subtitles, and fanart, and display your photos with the option to zoom and rotate for optimal presentation. OpenELEC also provides a TV and personal video recording functionality, allowing you to watch your favorite channels, browse TV listings, and record broadcasts to view later. Additionally, the application manages your TV series, tracking your favorite episodes and providing descriptions, actor information, and other details via online scrapers. The music and audiobook player supports a wide range of audio formats, displaying artist photos and album covers as Kodi fanart. Furthermore, OpenELEC can be expanded through numerous addons covering a variety of areas such as skins, tools, and even home automation
