What is OpenMVS?
OpenMVS is a comprehensive library that enables the reconstruction of detailed 3D models from multiple camera views. Its algorithms recover the full surface of a scene, going beyond the limited sparse point clouds produced by other photogrammetry tools. The input to the library is a set of camera poses and a sparse point cloud, and the output is a textured mesh representing the complete 3D geometry of the subject.
Highlights
- Robust, multi-view stereo reconstruction algorithms that generate dense, detailed 3D models
- Ability to recover the full surface of a scene, not just a sparse point cloud
- Supports a variety of input data including camera poses and sparse point clouds
- Generates a textured 3D mesh as the final output, enabling photorealistic visualization
- Designed as a modular, open-source library for integration into custom photogrammetry pipelines
