What is ophcrack?

The Ophcrack application is a password recovery tool that leverages rainbow tables to crack Windows user account passwords. Capable of extracting and decrypting LM and NTLM password hashes, the software supports Windows XP, Vista, and 7 operating systems. Users can initiate brute-force attacks on simple passwords, view real-time graphical analyses of the cracking process, and export password audit data in CSV format. Ophcrack also provides a LiveCD environment to facilitate straightforward password recovery from Windows partitions
