What is pngquant?

pngquant is a versatile and efficient tool for compressing PNG images without compromising visual quality. This command-line utility and library utilizes a lossy compression technique to significantly reduce file sizes, often by as much as 70, while maintaining full alpha transparency. The resulting images are compatible with all modern web browsers and offer improved fallback support in older versions of Internet Explorer compared to 24-bit PNGs
