What is Power Tab Editor?
Power Tab Editor is a free tablature authoring tool for Windows users, created by Brad Larsen. It enables the creation of tablature scores for various instruments, including guitar, bass, and ukulele. The current version of the software utilizes the *.ptb file format. The tool supports importing MIDI tracks and exporting tablature scores in multiple formats, such as ASCII Text, HTML, and MIDI. Additionally, individual sections of the tablature can be exported as bitmap files. The program allows users to generate tablature scores alongside standard musical notation, achieved through the input of tablature. Each Power Tab file contains two scores: guitar and bass, though only one score needs to be used. For proper playback, it is required that the time signatures and tempo markers be consistent between the two scores. The latest version of Power Tab Editor was released in 2000. In 2006, the author released an open-source wxWidgets-based program named the PT Parser, which provides useful information for developers interested in creating software that can convert, view, play, or edit Power Tab (.ptb) files. The PT Parser project is hosted on Google Code
