What is RimWorld?

A sprawling sci-fi colony simulation game driven by an intelligent AI storyteller, RimWorld follows the trials and tribulations of three survivors from a crashed space liner as they build a new life on a frontier world at the edge of known space. Inspired by the gritty, space western aesthetics of Firefly, the deep simulation mechanics of Dwarf Fortress, and the epic scale of Dune and Warhammer 40,000, the game tasks players with managing every facet of their fledgling colony - from the moods and individual needs of their colonists, to engaging in small-team tactical gunplay, to fashioning structures, weapons, and apparel from a variety of materials ranging from metal and wood to futuristic compounds Colonists must contend with a host of threats, from pirate raiders and hostile tribes to rampaging animals and ancient killing machines lurking in the darkness. Yet there are also opportunities to tame and train cute pets, productive farm animals, and deadly attack beasts to aid in the colony's defense and prosperity. Players will witness the complex social dynamics of their colonists as they form relationships, start families, and develop unique backstories, traits, and skills.
