What is Sphinx?

This app is a full-text search engine that offers text search capabilities to client applications. It provides the ability to rapidly and easily index and search data stored in SQL databases, NoSQL storage, or files. The app can also index and search data on the fly, operating similarly to a database server. Sphinx is a tool in the Search Engines category of a tech stack Sphinx is a software search engine designed with indexing database content in mind. It natively supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, and ODBC-compliant databases as data sources. Other data sources can be indexed via pipe in a custom XML format. Until version 3, Sphinx was dual-licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2 or proprietary licensing. Since version 3, Sphinx has become proprietary, with a promise to release its source code in the future
