What is SteamOS?
The SteamOS Linux distribution is built on an Arch Linux foundation and is specifically designed to run Valve's Steam platform and Steam-compatible games. In addition to the core Steam gaming functionality, the operating system also provides a standard KDE Plasma desktop environment, allowing users to access regular Linux applications beyond just the Steam ecosystem. To optimize the gaming experience, SteamOS features a customized graphics stack, a long-term supported Linux kernel, and a proprietary graphics compositor that facilitates smooth transitions between the Steam client, games, and the SteamOS system overlay
