What is Textile?

Textile is a lightweight markup language that provides a concise and intuitive syntax for generating well-formed XHTML content. Developed by Dean Allen, the language aims to simplify the process of creating structured web documents by automatically handling common formatting tasks such as inserting character entity references for apostrophes, quotation marks, ellipses, and em dashes. Originally implemented in PHP, Textile has since been translated into various programming languages, including Python, enabling developers to easily integrate it into their projects. The language is distributed under a BSD-style license and is widely adopted, with integration into numerous content management systems
