What is Videos?

The Videos app is the official movie player of the GNOME desktop environment, built upon the xine-lib or GStreamer frameworks. It offers a comprehensive set of features to enhance the video viewing experience. The app provides a playlist, full-screen mode, seek and volume controls, as well as seamless keyboard navigation. Additionally, it boasts an array of advanced functionalities, including a video thumbnailer for the file manager, a Nautilus properties tab, and a Mozilla (Firefox) plugin to view movies directly within the browser. Users can also leverage a command-line video properties helper for indexers, allowing for efficient video management. The app supports a wide range of GStreamer-compatible files, LIRC remote control, and various playlist formats such as Shoutcast, m3u, asx, SMIL, and ra. It offers robust DVD, VCD, and disc-type detection, along with TV-Out configuration and support for multiple audio output channels.
