What is Vinegar?

Vinegar is a Safari extension that replaces the YouTube player with a minimal HTML video tag, removing ads, preventing tracking, restoring picture-in-picture functionality, and enabling videos to continue playing in the background. The extension's permission to "read information from webpages" is simply a necessary requirement to locate and replace the YouTube player on the webpage, and does not involve any unintended data collection or privacy violations
