What is Widelands?

As a ruler, the player need not micromanage every subject, but rather issue high-level commands - such as ordering the construction of a new building or the attack of an enemy's barracks. The game's single-player campaigns tell captivating stories of tribes and their struggles within the Widelands universe. However, the true settlement-building begins when players unite with friends over the internet or local area network, working together to construct new empires or engaging in thrilling warfare. Widelands also offers an Artificial Intelligence system to provide a compelling challenge for solo players.
