What is XigmaNAS?
XigmaNAS is a robust, open-source Network-Attached Storage solution that offers comprehensive storage and data management capabilities. Formerly known as NAS4Free, this embedded distribution is based on the FreeBSD operating system and continues the development of the TrueNAS 7 series project. XigmaNAS provides seamless file sharing across Windows, Apple, and UNIX-like systems, enabling users to centralize their data with ease. At the core of the system is the powerful ZFS v28 file system, which offers advanced features such as software RAID (0, 1, 5), disk encryption, and comprehensive S.M.A.R.T. monitoring with email reporting. XigmaNAS supports a wide range of protocols, including CIFS (Samba), FTP, NFS, TFTP, AFP, RSYNC, Unison, iSCSI (initiator and target), UPnP, and Bittorrent, all of which are highly configurable through the user-friendly web interface. The versatility of XigmaNAS extends to its installation options, allowing it to be installed on Compact Flash, USB, SSD key, or hard disk, or even booted from a LiveCD with a small USB key for configuration storage
