What is XScreenSaver?

XScreenSaver is a comprehensive screen saver suite that has been a staple on Linux and Unix systems running the X11 Window System since its initial release in 1992. Boasting a vast collection of screen savers, the application also serves as the framework for blanking and locking the screen on X11 systems.
